UNHRC: Get To Know Your Chairs!
HEAD CHAIR: Damara Karizga
Hello delegates! Welcome to the UNHRC council. I'm Damara and I'll be serving as your Head Chair and I am EXCITED to return to SVPMUN after delegating last year in the same UNHRC council. This topic is quite a unique topic in my opinion as it tackles an issue that not alot of other UNHRC topics talk about. I hope to see substantial debates and non template solutions in council. See you there!

Salutations, Delegates! I’m Dimas, a final-year student at SMA Negeri 28 Jakarta, and I’ll be serving as your Co-Chair for UNHRC. Outside of MUN, you’ll probably find me wandering around Blok M, sipping matcha, or procrastinating very professionally at school in Pasar Minggu (#pasmingbased). Looking forward to meeting you all and seeing the perspectives you’ll bring to the committee!

Migration Enforcement in Aging and Shrinking Societies
In the coming decade, a "demographic winter" will hit high-income nations, especially in East Asia and parts of Europe. Japan, for example, expects a 12% decline in its working-age population by 2040. This causes the dilemma of relying on foreign labor versus upholding strict border controls and national homogeneity.
While these states have traditionally relied on “temporary” visa programs like Japan’s Technical Intern or South Korea’s EPS, recent years show increased deportations of overstayers and “irregular” migrants who have built lives over decades. This debate considers whether mass deportation in aging societies causes economic harm, disrupts social cohesion, and strains diplomatic ties with source countries facing their own demographic changes.
Debate Focus: To what extent does deporting long-term laborers in aging societies violate the right to family life versus a state's sovereign border control?
